District Cricket Association (KDCA) was founded and registered in the year 1968 by Late GopalraoGhorpade and his colleagues D.R.Patil,M.R.Patil,TatyasahebPatne,RanjitsinhMahagaokar, Kharade Brothers, Shri JaisingraoKusale and a number of other Cricket loving people. The origin was an outcome of the idea of forming an exclusive Association for Cricket by what was then KIDSA i.e Kolhapur Inter Department Sports Association
KDCA was formed with an objective of developing and promoting Cricket at all levels in Kolhapur District. KDCA is one of the oldest sporting bodies overlooking the administration & development of cricket at grass root level in Kolhapur City &rural areas of the District.
KDCA is the only District level cricket governing body in Kolhapur affiliated to Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) & and hence to Board of Control for Cricket inIndia (BCCI).
The Founder President Shri GopalraoGhorpade proposed the name of ShriTatyasahebPatne as the first President, and later Shri M.P.Shinde(Ghosarwadkar)became President and gave KDCA further shape in development of Cricket.It was after Shri M.P.Shinde that in 1982 that Shri R.A.(Bal) Patankar took over the reins of KDCA and has been the President till today except for an interlude of two years in the year between June 2009 till September 2012 when Shri Ruturaj Ingle a veteran cricketer became the President from 2009 to 2012.
Seniorscricketers likeD.R.Patil,M.R.Patil,H.D.Patil,Shri RanjitsinhMahagaokar,BabaBhosnsle,BaburaoParitekar,V.M.Bhosle,played a crucial role in the growth of KDCA.
Shri Mohan Bhuimber; Gen.Secretary from 1980 till 2002,Vijay S Bhosle who was the Gen.Secretary from 2002 till 2014;Shri Ruturaj Ingle who was President from 2009-2012 also played crucial roles in bringing KDCA to its current position in addition to the Managing Committee members & Members of KDCA from its inception.
KDCA works in a most transparent method and truly believes in high standards of organization values. For the last 49 years KDCA has every year without fail audited its account and circulated to all members of KDCA and Annual General Meetings are held every year without fail.
KDCA Amended Constitution 2005: In the year 2005 KDCA also amended it’s Constitution to move with changing times, and introduced specific rules for representation of Talukas,Clubs,Office bearers and representation on Managing Committee.
KDCA has produced 18Ranji Trophy players so far and many more are promising.More than 75 players have represented Maharashtra at various Age categories.
Kolhapur District Cricket Association has always been represented in the MCA KDCA’s Hon.Secretary Vijay Bhosle represented for 10 years and R.A.Patankar President KDCA is representing since 2012.
Since we are affiliated to MCA and hence we undertake a number of programmes initiated by MCA like their Invitation Tournaments, Seminars for Umpires etc
Under KDCA around 40 functional Clubs, Nine Talukas andaround 1200 players are registered whose records are maintained by KDCA.
Seminars and workshops for Umpires/Scorers/Physiotherapists/Physical Trainers are undertaken by inviting experts in their field to guide persons at local level.
In the year 2014 the practice wicket center was made fully functional.Out of this four turf wickets are already operational and players are getting regular net practice. In the same complex the two cement wickets and gallery will is also planned.
Kolhapur District Cricket Players Association: KDCA also encouraged veteran cricketers to form a players Association to help take up players issues and work hand in hand with KDCA for development of cricket in Kolhapur hence in the month of October 2016 the Kolhapur District Cricket Players Association was formed and registered with the Charity Commissioner, Kolhapur.

While KDCA enters it’s 50th year to celebrate Golden Jubilee,I take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported and contributed in bringing the District Association to the level it has reached today. This includes our Life & Patron members who have stood by us and supported every activity of ours, President and Managing Committee members of MCA,our sponsors who have for last 20 years sustained our tournaments and helped us explore and nurture young talent, Management of all the grounds where our tournaments are held, the 35 affiliated clubs,Taluka Cricket Associations, Kolhapur District Umpires Association,District Players Association,our sub-committee members who tirelessly strive to implement our policies, Advertisers, Vendors, our office staff Kolhapur media both press and electronic last but not least members of our Managing Committee who have worked as a team in service of cricket.
Our policies have always centered around our player’s skill developments and fitness, results of which are there to seeby their performance. Today a number of our players both boys and girls are performing satisfactorily at the state level in spite of our limited resources.
During this golden jubilee year we would also like to take the opportunity of taking up some new initiatives, which will focus on creating an all-season practice facility on our own ground.Our core area of work will also be directedtowards Junior Cricket (U/14) for both boys and girls, and development of Cricket at the rural level where large untapped talent remains to be explored.
I am sure KDCA will be able to provide a sustainable model for development of District Cricket in near future.

In the year 1983 West Indies tour of India; one match against West Zone was given to Maharashtra Cricket Association (M.C.A.).We with the help of DigvijayKhanvilkar and Shri N.K.P.Salve President BCCI and Mr. DnyaneswarAgashe President MCA got the West Indies v/s West Zone match to be staged in Kolhapur’s Shivaji Stadium. The tournament was staged very successfully by KDCA so much so that Lloyd who came as Manager of West Indies team praised all the arrangements, playing conditions and the wicket.
On the basis of this success M.C.A also gave us permission to stage the Sri Lanka v/s India under25 in 1986.This was followed by Sussex (England) Under 19 v/s KDCA. Then In the year 1990 Wills Trophy One-Day Tournament i.e Quarter-Final - Maharashtra v/s Wills XI was also successfully staged by us.
In addition more than 10 Ranji Trophy Matches and benefit Matches for cricketing Greats & Veterans like Polly Umrigar, RamakantAchrekar,VasantRanjane, ChanduBorde, and BhausahebNimbalkar.All these fixtures gave us revenue to build our finances and gave us the money to carry out development of Cricket.
MCA: Year 2005 was a watershed year for Maharashtra Cricket. Under Shri Ajay Shirke’s leadership all Districts were given representation in MCA and a new era opened up for District players, more players both boys and girls could represent Maharashtra teams in various age groups. Many Kolhapur seniors served as selectors Rahul Desai, Ramesh Kadam, Ramesh Hazare, VijayBhosle (Women’s selectors)Vijay Bhosle also served as Zonal Secretary in MCA. Today R.A Patankar represents KDCA on MCA Managing Committee.
KDCA organizes 14tournaments though almost 200 matches, throughout the year for various age groups and formats both for boys&girls. More than 200 matches are organized every year under these tournaments. In addition MCA invitation tournaments are organized every year in support of MCA Cricket programme.
Mirchi Kolhapur Premier League (MKPL):-
To generate revenue KDCA has undertakenactivitythatwould help KDCA sustain the yearly activity financially; hence we initiated the Kolhapur Premier League a T-20 tournament which we started in the year 2012: In true tradition of past track record; KDCA conducted the KPL-2012,KPL-2013, &KPL 2014 in a most professional manner. The events were witnessed by a record cricket loving crowd. The astounding success of the Tournament has put KPL-brand as a premium brand among Kolhapur sporting events. The event has become a much awaited and anticipated Cricket event in Kolhapur. In the year 2015 we changed the franchisee format and introduced the tournament as a Sponsored Tournament. The eight teams that participated were Air India, Jain Irrigation, DYPatil Sports (Mumbai),Chowgule Sports(Goa),Prism Sports, Viraj Sports, Kolhapur Royals &Kolhapur Colts.(Two teams comprising local Kolhapur players)
Our regular tournament activity gives the right opportunity to every young aspiring cricketer both boys&girls. Through this process players selection takes place and hence a number of young players are regularly getting opportunity at the State Level.
KDCA utilizes almost nine grounds all with turf wickets that include Shivaji Stadium, Shivaji University, KSA, Shastri Nagar, Ichalkaranji, Shahupiuri Gymkhana, RajaramColleg,Police Gymkhana and Kagal.
MKPL Series: The Larger Objectives:-
The revenue raised from MKPL tournaments will be utilized for overall development of cricket in Kolhapur with specific focus on following aspects:
• To popularize the game of cricket in the District.
• To provide good practice wickets, coaching camps for district level Players (from junior level to senior level). To conduct workshops for Umpires and Scorers.
• To Develop Cricketing Skills, Fitness, Discipline & Mental skills amongst young Cricketers of Kolhapur.
• Good infrastructure and Ground facilities to players.
For Women Late BhausahebNimbalkar Trophy is initiated from the year 2013 which was started on the first death anniversary of Late B.B.Nimbalkar. One practice wicket will be reserved for Women players for net practice. Kolhapur girl AmrutaShinde has represented India in various international fixtures and is currently BCCI&MCA Selector.TodayAnujaPatil is representing India ,and is Captain of Maharashtra women’s team and another player RutujaDeshmukh plays West Zone, ShivaliShinde and AditiGaikwad are also playing from Maharashtra a number of young budding women players are ready to take challenges at the state level.We have conducted subject seminars for women specifically on Fitness&injury management,(By DrPranajaliDhamne), Diet (By MrsManjiri Gadre)&Motivation and mental preparedness for higher cricket (by national player & BCCI selector Amrita Shinde)
KDCA enters its 50th year in 2017, during the year a number of initiatives are planned:
(1) Souvenir consisting of articles of KDCA’s history, photographs of Kolhapur cricketers,highlights of Kolhapur’s Cricketing history, articles on cricket, Cricket history which will make the Souvenir worth preserving

(4) New tournament for Junior Ladies
(5) Create infrastructure for coaching and training in memory of Late BBNimbalkar “Integrated Cricket Development Center”

(7) Felicitation of old Cricketers
(8) Veterans matches, Quiz Competition, Essay Competition
Cricket Development Work:-
Three fundamental areas of focus for KDCA are (i)Development of Junior Cricket
(ii)Development of Cricket in Rural areas & (iii) Women’s Cricket.A number of initiatives for development in these three areas are undertaken at KDCA.
For rural Cricket development NineTalukasi.eKarveer, Kagal, Gadhinglaj, Ajra, Shirol,Chandgad,Panhala,Hatkangale,Gaganbavda.Tourist Hotel Sponsored LateMahagaokar Trophy where only teams from rural areas can participate was started 15 years back to give opportunity to players from rural areas.This resulted in good effect and today in Kolhapur district cricket is played in all talukas,
For Junior Cricket KDCA regularly conducts four month’s off season fitness training & capacity building camps for juniors. Similarly workshops for subjects viz. physiotherapy, injury prevention, yoga, diet regulation are held.The Late CaptBhoperaoKadam Trophy was initiated for this age category. The junior players are performing very well at the state level.
The game of cricket is changing very fast and KDCA has kept up with the changing times. At KDCA we are trying to teach the players the basic values of Cricket which was once called a ‘Gentleman’s game.
KDCA hopes to have its own ground where basic infrastructure can be provided for young cricketers and build a Training academy which will be used by Districts of nearby areas.
The objective of this academy will be to develop an integrated Cricket Centre which would provide all facilities for promising & budding cricketers not only of Kolhapur but for Districts around Kolhapur.
Top Talent Cricket Academy (TTCA):-
KDCA has a bigger vision where all Cricketing activity will be integrated and centralized and named after Late BhausahebNimbalkar named as “Late Bhausaheb Nimbalkar Intergrated Cricket Center”. As a first step towards this vision KDCA’s Sub Committee Cricket Development Committee formulated and brought into reality in April 2014 the “Top Talent Cricket Academy”.
